Happy Independence Day! It is astonishing to think that our great nation has celebrated its 234th Birthday on this July 4th. On that day when the Declaration of Independence was signed by the likes of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, and of course- John Hancock (Who reportedly said, “There! I believe King George should be able to read that!”), our nation took a step forward- knowing that war was inevitable- but that freedom would be worth the sacrifice.
“My God! How little do my countrymen know what precious blessings they are in possession of, and which no other people on earth enjoy!” – Thomas Jefferson
Have you taken a moment to quietly thank the many American patriots who have willingly “refreshed the tree of liberty”? After all, freedom isn’t free. Or, have you taken a moment to recognize the beauty of the freedom we possess? While some countries citizens cower in fear of the those in power, our free citizens gather together publicly, picnic with our families, throw Frisbees, go boating, eat heartily, and simply enjoy the wonder on the face of a child seeing fireworks for the first time. What a gift!
Thought For The Week
This week’s challenge comes from one of our founding fathers:
“If we do not lay out ourselves in the service of mankind whom should we serve?” – John Adams
Do something this week to celebrate our nation’s freedom- make a difference in your family, your work, or your community- or all three!
